FAQs
About the event
What is the Colour Run?
The Colour Run is a fun, non-competitive course on the school oval featuring five colour stations, low-risk obstacles and some optional water elements. Students will participate with their class during the school day with all students back to their usual classroom before the end of day bell. The course is designed as a ‘choose your own adventure’: children may use the powder-free bypass or skip water elements without needing to explain their choice.
When and where will it be held?
The event will be held on the Wilston State School oval on Friday 23 October 2026. Class waves will run from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. A more detailed class timetable will be published closer to the event.
Why is the P&C running the event directly?
We want to give Wilston State School children a memorable and genuinely fun experience without asking them to create fundraising pages, seek individual sponsorships or reach fundraising targets. Running the event ourselves also means we avoid losing a significant portion of the funds to a commercial fundraising provider.
Tickets, consent and fundraising
What does the $10 child ticket include?
The $10 ticket includes the Colour Run experience with the child’s class, P&C-provided protective glasses to keep, one frozen Zooper Dooper at the finish, and the general costs of delivering the event.
When can I buy a ticket?
Tickets will be available through MunchMonitor until Friday 16 October. The closing date is firm so the school and P&C can finalise class lists, supplies and event-day arrangements. Late purchases cannot be accepted.
Does buying a ticket provide consent?
Yes. Purchasing a ticket through MunchMonitor constitutes consent to participate.
Will there be any activity arrangements through the school office?
Yes. The event is a P&C fundraiser, however as the Colour Run will occur during the school day, you will receive a consent form to complete on QParents or, for families not currently registered with QParents, a form sent home with your child. The school leadership team, class teachers and teacher aides will be present and assisting in the event.
What if paying the ticket price is difficult for our family?
Please contact the school office through its usual confidential support process to discuss alternative arrangements and activity options for the afternoon session.
What happens if my child does not have a ticket?
Children without a ticket will complete an alternative supervised activity while their class participates in the Colour Run.
Can our family contribute more?
Yes. Families may add additional sponsorship in Munch Monitor, and more than one contribution item can be added to the cart. You may return as many times as you like to purchase extra sponsorship amounts to help the P&C reach its next school donation goal for the new Primrose Street outdoor learning and play area. These contributions are entirely optional and do not affect a child’s experience.
Where will the proceeds go?
Ticket income will first cover the reasonable costs of running the event. All remaining ticket income, optional additional contributions and colour-station sponsorship income will help the P&C with its next school donation goal of the new outdoor learning and integrated play space for Primrose Street. The final amount raised will be shared after the event in the school newsletter.
Participation, health and course choices
What if my child does not want to be covered in powder?
Any child may use the clearly marked powder-free bypass lane on the day. They may still enjoy the obstacles and optional water elements and will still receive their sunglasses and Zooper Dooper.
Are the water elements compulsory?
No. Children may choose whether to use sprinklers or other water elements. They may take part in as much or as little of the course as feels comfortable on the day.
What about asthma, allergies, respiratory sensitivities or sensory needs?
Class teachers will remain with their classes and will use their existing knowledge of each child’s needs to guide participation on the day. Children may bypass powder or water elements at any time. If you have a particular concern about the event, please contact the P&C at cso@wilstonpandc.org.au before Friday 16 October.
Who supervises the children?
Teachers retain responsibility for student supervision and will accompany their class to and from the Colour Run as well as while the class is on the school oval for their session. P&C volunteers will operate the colour, obstacle, course-flow and finish stations.
What happens if my child decides not to participate on the day?
Participation in individual course elements remains the child’s choice. A child may use the bypass options or, with their teacher’s guidance, take part in the alternative supervised activity.
What to wear and bring
What should my child wear?
Children should bring to school old, light-coloured, school-appropriate clothing with covered shoulders and suitable closed shoes. Please do not send costumes or clothing that must remain unstained.
Will the colour wash out?
The powder is intended to be messy. It may stain clothing, shoes, skin or hair, and the P&C cannot guarantee that it will wash out completely. Please choose clothing and footwear accordingly.
What should my child bring to the run?
Children should bring their usual school hat and water bottle while they wait for their session. They will return to class and be excused after roll marking in their Colour Run clothing, so an old towel to wipe off with or for the trip home may also be helpful.
Are protective glasses provided?
Yes. Each child participant will receive protective glasses and may keep them after the event. Glasses must be worn while passing through a colour station. Powder will never be deliberately thrown towards a participant’s face.
Helping on the day
Can I volunteer?
Yes, please! We will circulate a roster for parent helpers using an online volunteer platform. Roles will include colour and obstacle stations, class flow, spectator support, powder logistics, the Zooper Dooper finish station, setup and cleanup. As the Colour Run will occur in the afternoon session only, volunteer timeslots are limited to a short window late in the school day. Volunteer details and registration can be found here.
Zooper Doopers
Will children receive a Zooper Dooper?
Yes. Each child participant will receive one frozen Zooper Dooper in the finish and recovery area before returning to class. The tuckshop will freeze the stock before the event, and designated volunteers will prepare and distribute them at the finish.
Can my child choose a flavour?
No. Flavours will be allocated at random and cannot be selected or exchanged.
Can an alternative frozen treat be provided?
No. Because of the number of participants and the complexity of safely managing different items, the event can offer a Zooper Dooper. A child may simply decline it. Families with ingredient or allergy concerns should review the product information and contact the P&C at cso@wilstonpandc.org.au before the ticket closing date.
Parents, carers and spectators
Can parents and carers watch?
Yes please. We would love as many parents and carers to come and watch the Colour Run event and help make it a fun afternoon by cheering on your child’s class! Where possible enter through the oval gate and remain in the designated spectator areas. A detailed class timetable will be published closer to the event so families know when to attend.
Can parents participate?
No, not this time. As this is our first time running this event in-house we are keeping the run to just our children this year. However, if the event is a success, we are hoping to welcome parents into the messy fun next year!
Can spectators take photographs?
Parents and carers may take photographs or video of their own child from the designated spectator areas. Please do not photograph other children where possible, and do not post event photographs or video on social media. Any photographs taken and published by the school or P&C will comply with existing school media permissions.
Weather, absences and cancellations
What happens if the weather is unsuitable?
If wind, rain, heat, the condition of the oval or another safety issue prevents the event from proceeding on 23 October, it will move to the nominated backup date of Friday 30 October 2026. Existing tickets will remain valid. Families will be notified through all available school and P&C communication channels.
What if my child is absent?
Tickets are non-refundable if a child is absent on the event day or the backup date. Supplies and staffing will have been arranged using the final ticket numbers.
What if both dates are cancelled?
If the event cannot proceed on either date, the P&C Executive will determine the treatment of ticket payments and optional additional contributions after considering unavoidable event costs. Families will be advised as soon as that decision is made.
Still have a question?
Please contact the Wilston State School P&C at cso@wilstonpandc.org.au. Questions about fee waivers or QParents should be directed to the school office.
