Child Care Subsidy update to allowable absences & additional absentee rules

Hi Families,

We have received a communication from the Department of Education, Skills and Employment regarding the amendment of Legislation to the Family Assistance Law and Child Care Subsidy allowable absences and additional absentee rules. Please see the summarised information below that outlines the updates made by the Minister for Education.

Allowable Absentees for Child Care Subsidy

All families will be allocated an additional 20 days of allowable absences to use in the 2019-2020 financial year. Each child now has a total of 62 absentees until June 30, 2020. These absentees will still be eligible for Child Care Subsidy. Please note that this will revert back to 42 allowable absences for the 2020-2021 financial year.

How to find the number of absentees you have used?

On page 1 of you weekly Statement of Entitlement look for the "YTD absences" in the middle of the page underneath the "Family Summary".

What to do after your 62nd absentee this financial year or 42nd absentee next financial year?

If you reach your 62 absentees for this financial year and your child will be absent after this you will need to notify Wilston Kids Care via email of the reason for the absentee that you have already marked via My Family Lounge.

Until December 31, 2020, if the absentee is due to sickness of the child, a carer, or sibling you will not need to provide any evidence for these additional absentees (i.e. medical certificates) apart from the above-mentioned email in order for Child Care Subsidy to continue to be paid. Please note, after December 31, 2020 all additional absentees will require evidence (i.e. medical certificates) in order for Child Care Subsidy to be paid.

It's fantastic that the Government introduced and passed legislative amendments to Family Assistance Law that will help families and early childhood education and care services (childcare/OSHC) manage the impact of the COVID-19 related events. This will be helpful to families for this week and for Term 2.

Thank you again for your ongoing support of Wilston Kids Care.

Any questions don’t hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
